Maki Itoi was born in Tokyo and she made her debut concert already at her age nine. She studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music with Prof. Kenji Kobayashi and Prof.Toshiya Eto. After receiving her Diplom in 1994, she went to Germany for her further study with Prof.Young Uck Kim at the “Hochschule fuer Musik Detmold”. A year later, she moved to “Fondazione Romano Romanini” in Italy to study with Prof. Dora Schwarzberg, and later to Austria at the “Universitaet fuer Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien” from which she received the Master of Art degree in 2004. She also took master classes in violin and chamber music with Isaak Stern, Robert Mann (Julliard String Quartet), Valentin Berlinsky (Borodin String Quartet), Tokyo String Quartet, Mstislaw Rostropowitsch and among others.

Maki Itoi has won numerous awards in international competitions including the 1st prize of »Bela Bartok« (1997), 2nd prize of »Lipizer« (2002), 2nd prize of »Viotti« (2002), "Brescia"(2001), and further more she received leading awards at „Trio di Trieste“ (1999), »Paganini« (1998), »Vaclav Huml« (1997).

Maki Itoi’s concert appearances are in Austria, Croacia, France, Germany, Holand, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, und USA. Her solo performances were appeared on radio and TV stations such as; ORF, RAI, NHK, TBS, TV Hungary, Radio Moscow, Radio Zagreb and ROS. She is invited playing to international places and festivals such as the Bregenz, Evian, Kagan, Kazan, Osijek, Schleswig Holstein, Stari Grad, Tberi, Verbier, Brucknerhaus-Linz, Konzerthaus-Vienna and Musikverein-Vienna.
